Canucks finish in top 10 at OWHA Provincial Championships

The Bantam REP Canucks travelled to Mississauga this past weekend to participate in the Ontario Women's Hockey Association Provincial Championships.
They opened the weekend with see-saw clash against the Aurora Panthers. The Panthers got on the board first with a power play goal, but the Canucks battled back to tie it up with a late 3rd period marker by Chloe Skead. Unfortunately the Panthers came back and took the 2-1 win.
Later that night the Canucks came up against the Mississauga Chiefs. The Canucks took a 3-0 lead early in the game with goals from Paige Nutley, Brynn Rawn and Natalina Reynard. The Chiefs tried to equal the momentum of the Canucks, when they struck twice, but the Canucks kept up the fast pace and put 2 more between the pipes from Ally Turcotte and Abby Dent, and ran away with a 5-2 win. Taleah McDougall stood tall between the pipes for the Canucks.
Saturday morning saw the Canucks battle with the Huron Heat. Huron took a quick 3-0 lead into the 2nd period, but the Canucks dug deep and rebounded with goals from Katelyne Stenlund, Abbie Favreau and a short handed one from Brynn Rawn to tie it up. With Huron now in a crunch, and the Canucks battling high penalty minutes, the Huron squad notched another one with only minutes left to take the 4-3 win. Huron eventually went on to win the Bantam Gold medal.
The Canucks were now in a 3 way tie for 2nd place in their pool, with only the top 2 teams advancing to the Quarter finals. After all the dust settled, the Canucks came out in 2nd place and moved on to face the Burlington Barracudas. Burlington was coming into this game as the LLFHL Regular Season Champions as well as the Playoff Champions (the LLFHL features 43 teams from the Greater Toronto Area). With the Canucks once again facing heavy penalty minutes, the game remained scoreless well into the 3rd period of regulation. Burlington snuck one by Canucks goaltender Faith Reid, but Chloe Skead responded with one of her own to tie the game up. The 2 teams were now facing overtime. After 2 periods of extra time, nothing had been settled. With a break to clean the ice and refuel, both teams came out for the 3rd OT period exhausted. 3 minutes into the 3rd OT, the Barracudas got the break they needed and ended the game on a breakaway goal.
Canucks goaltender, Faith Reid stood on her head to keep the Canucks alive through 6 periods of play.
Although this loss ended the weekend for the Bantam team, they ended up 9th overall in a division of the Province's top 24 teams (Province wide, this division has 50+ teams).
