D5 Drop Championship Game to Pop's Pride

The offence was the story again for District 5, as they only converted once, but missed the net too many times, and they dropped a 3-1 decision to Pop's Pride.
Trailing 1-0 after the first half, Andrew Miller picked off a pass and fed Brandon Collins in the slot to tie the game, just 1:11 into the second. Pop's Pride would get the go ahead goal again just three and a half minutes later, before scoring the insurance marker at the halfway point, and go on to the victory.
D5 had some pressure in the final minutes, but were unable to score as they missed the net a few times, and goaltender Ray Martin made some big saves as well.
Congratulations to Pop's Pride on the win and their Miller Championship!
NOTE: Before the game, it was announced that Justin Parsons was named Top Defenseman and John Byrne was awarded Top Goalie and League MVP. Congratulations gentlemen!
District 5 Move to Championship With Win Over Placentia

It was a great back and forth game all night long, that saw three lead changes and the game tied three separate times as well.
Devin Philpott and Matt Pennell scored twice each for the winners, while Robert Price had two helpers in the win. Pennell scored the game winner with just 2:06 left to play in the second half.
John Byrne had a tremendous game, making a number of key saves throughout the game, especially in the dying moments, as Placentia had their goalie pulled for the extra attacker.
They now get another 10 day break before the Championship Game, which is slated to take place on Sunday, February 26th at 8:00pm.
District 5 Avenge Only Tier 2 Loss With 3-1 Win Over Empire

The early goal against trend continued in this game, as Empire opened up a 1-0 lead just over one minute into the game, but John Byrne and District 5 shut them down the rest of the way, to pick up a win.
Brandon Collins would tie the game just before the half way mark of the first period and Devin Philpott scored with five minutes remaining in the period to give D5 a 2-1 lead heading into the second. Mike Mulrooney scored his fourth of the season at the 10:01 mark of the second to seal the deal.
Byrne had another solid game for his team and picked up the win.
D5 will now get a couple of weeks off before battling Placentia in the 1 vs 2 game on the 16th of February, that will see the winner move to the final and the loser playing in a semi-final game.
District 5 Comes From Behind to Get Win

District 5 trailed 3-1 after a very sluggish first, and were down 4-1 five minutes into the second half, but they were able to bear down and get a come from behind win.
After giving up the first goal of the game less than a minute in, Andrew Miller took a nice pass from Matt Brett and snapped on low block to tie the game at one at the 3:45 mark. It stayed that way for 10 minutes before Max Power scored twice in a three minute span to take a 3-1 lead into the half.
They would score again just over five minutes into the second to go up 4-1, but that's when D5 decided to start to turn things around.
Jon Ivey took charge on an outside play and took the time to go to the front of the net and as Brett covered for him at the point, he corralled the ball and snapped one on net, that Ivey got a piece of and made it a 4-2 game. Four minutes later, Devin Philpott finished off a pressure play by snapping one home and making it 4-3. Trevor Jacobs hammered one home a minute and a half later, that hit the post and went in to tie the game with four minutes left.
30 seconds later off the faceoff, Miller fed Brett and he potted the eventual game winning goal. Jacobs would add an empty netter with seven seconds left and District 5 take the 6-4 victory.
Next action is next Thursday at 7:00 as District 5 meets Pop's Pride.
D5 Defeat Placentia; Move Into Tie for First

It was another great battle between these two teams last night at Northpoint Sports that saw District 5 come away with a tough 5-4 win.
Placentia got on the board just 50 seconds into the game and would hold that lead for quite some time, behind the great goaltending of James Dunn, but Robert Price was able to tie the game at the 15:00 mark. However, off the ensuing faceoff, Placentia would retake the lead on a shot that John Byrne had no chance of seeing. Quickly again though, Brandon Collins would tie the game when he banged home his second of the year, 40 seconds later.
Collins would add another a couple minutes later as he knocked home a rebound off Cory Mitchell's shot and Bobby Marsh would tally before the end of the first.
Andrew Miller would score the eventual game winner five minutes into the second half after he took a pass from Michael Mulrooney, spun, and scored.
Placentia would get two goals late, and when Matt Pennell took a penalty with one minute left, they had more pressure with a five on three, but John Byrne came up with a couple of big goals to secure the win.
District 5 take to the floor again this Thursday at 8:00pm in a matchup with Maximum Power.
