Gators Thump Woodview, Take 1st Place in RR

Posted by: Scott Gordon on Mon Feb 27th 2017 10:40pm

The Gators coming into the game were tied with Mackenzie for first in the league however with Mackenzie losing to Brookside before the game began, the Gators were given the opportunity to put points between them and Mackenzie. Woodview however would be no easy foe as they have become a more well rounded team as of late being Brookside last week 5-4.

The first period the Gators were told to come out strong, and they did just that shutting down Woodviews #1 player and taking play to Woodview. It wouldn't take long as Mitchell popper the first one of the night getting around the defense after Little head manned the puck to make it 1-0. The Gators would have to kill a double minor from Simon after he was sent to the sinbin for protecting his goalie. Evan stopped all 5 shots he faced.

After coming into the second period with a 1-0 lead, the Gators looked to build on that lead and they were able to do just that. The taps just turned on as the Gators would add 4 goals in the period coming from all directions. The first to strike was Tyler off a nifty little pass from the back of the net from Bauer to make it 2-0. Adding to that would be Mitchell off a feed from Mason to bury it home for his second of the night. Then later in the period during a PP, Connor wired a shot from the point only to hit the post. However he would get another crack at it taking another ripper that found the tip end of Mason's stick to make it 4-0. Mitchell would add the 5th in the dieing seconds of the period for his hat-trick after being tripped up on the play and still managing to sneak it behind the goalie to make it 5-0 going into the third.

In the third, the Gators turned on shut down mode. Making simple plays, taking the man when needed and boxing out all shots around Evan. It was a complete defensive game with Evan facing only 8 shots, making all the stops needed to complete the shutout and the Gators having another complete team effort taking the game 5-0.

PP: 1-1
8 PIM for Game as Mitchell still holds the "Goon of the RR"

Gators Get first W against Brookside

Posted by: Scott Gordon on Wed Feb 22nd 2017 7:32pm

The Gators coming off a long break, were returning to action against Brookside after giving Kedron Gold all they wanted in a 3-1 victory and taking the first game of the round robin.

The first period the Gators dominated the play and shut down the Bombers top players. They were challenging pucks, getting good scoring chances and passing it around as a team. It didn't take long in finding the back of the net with a nice juicy rebound goal by Blake with an assist from his linemate Precoor. For the rest of the period, the Gators shut down any chances the Bombers had at getting chances to the Gators net with only one perimeter shot finding the pads of Evan.

After coming into the second period with a 1-0 lead, the Gators looked to build on that lead and they were able to do just that. Keeping the offensive pressure up, the Gators were able to capitalize on a bad clearing attempt which found its way to Bauers stick which we was then able to get it over to Tyler for him to bang home the 2nd goal of the game. Not long after, what looked to be a harmless shot from the perimeter actually led to a screen from Brookside's own defencemen which aloud Mitchell to find the back of the net making it 3-0.

In the third, the Gators having a 3 goal advantage shutdown Brookside in all aspects of there game. Shutting down the "big 3" proved to be rather easy except for one instance where due to a bad turnover, Jack from Brookside was able to get in on net, but Evan shut the door keeping the game 3-0. With a late penalty from Brookside, Glen Stewart played rather Defensive for the rest of the period and took the game and the 2 points from Brookside 3-0.

The Gators coming into the last two games of the season sit atop the standings tied with Brookside for 1st. In order to stay with them the Gators need to take the last 2 games of the season.

The first period the Gators dominated the play as with previous games. They were challenging pucks, getting good scoring chances and passing it around as a team. It didn't take long with Mitchell finding the back of the net with Aidan providing the lone assist. Later in the period it would happen again as from a pass from the point led to an opportunity which aloud Mason to get it over to Mitchell for his 2nd of many on the night and the Gators took at 2-0 lead into the second with Evan only seeing one shot all period.

After a solid first period it was more of the same in the second. With another marker from Mitchell to complete the Hat-trick and Aidan getting his second apple of the night. Evan had a bit more to do in this period stopping all 5 shots coming his way with getting hemmed in the end after a long shift for all those out there. The Gators would take the 3-0 lead into the 3rd.

The third, the Gators were put a bit more back onto there heals becoming content with what was transpiring with the 3-0 lead. Mitchell would add his fourth of the night and again 5 minutes later a 5th to make it a five goal night for himself and giving Aidan his 3rd apple and Mason his second with assists from Elijah and Connor coming as well. One sleepy play led to Southmead finally getting on the board breaking Evan's shutout however the Gators would take the game 5-1 and give Evan his 13th Win of the season.

Gators Lose Alex to Injury, Tie 1-1 to Brookside

Posted by: Scott Gordon on Sat Jan 21st 2017 2:32pm

The Gators coming off an OT-winner from Simon in the "A" final of the Brighton tournament, the Gators were riding a high and looking to add to the win count against Brookside for the first time this season being 0-1-1 so far.

The first period the Gators dominated the play. Constantly moving the puck around getting chance after chance. The Gators fired 13 shots Brooksides way and many more that missed the net. Play for the period was much in there zone but couldn't capitalize on any of the chances they got.

After a solid first period with a ton of puck possession, the Gators repeated that in the second with constant puck movement. There was no stopping them as finally on a rebound Bauer found the back of the net with the whole line take wacks at the puck. In the second however, Alex took a body check at the back of the net area resulting on him going down and staying down. After not being able to move his arm, he would head to the dressing room to be looked at with a suspected shoulder injury.

The Gators came into the third down a man but still with the lead and held on with dominate play. However the selfish play took over in the last five minutes and as there player skated in the defence and forwards got caught watching as Brookside found the back of the net and made it 1-1. The Gators held on for dear life to keep it that way and it payed off taking the 1-1 tie.
