Cobras Eliminate Coasties in Semi-Finals

Posted by: Hugo Braun on Fri Mar 23rd 2012 7:27pm

In a game that was great in every respect except for the ending, the Purple Cobras eliminated North Coast from the winter playoffs with a 2-1 shootout victory. But the Men In Black did not go down easily.

Havi, Dave Haviland, opened the scoring in the first period with a wrist shot from the high slot. He was the fourth man in on the rush and received the puck from A-Train, Lindsay Aspegren, as he crossed the blue line with speed. After the Cobras tied the game, A-Train put the Coasties back in front on a short range shot with assists from T-Bone, Tom Bonnee, and Hugs, Hugo Braun. The Cobras scored again early in the third and the game entered the last minute of regulation tied 2-2.

The Cobras scored with 50 seconds left on a lucky wobbling blooper from the blue line, but the Men In Black didn't quit. Gaining control off the ensuing face-off, the Coasties pulled their goalie for the extra man and fought to control the puck in the Cobra's zone. North Coast's intensity paid off when The Wrapper, Tim Allen, tied the game with 8 seconds to play. A-Train and T-Bone earned assists on the goal.

After a scoreless overtime the game moved to a shootout. A-Train scored first, but North Coast was unable to get any more pucks past the Cobra goalie. The Cobras fifth shooter scored their second goal to win the shootout 2-1.

Pat Kurth subbed in goal for the injured Superman, Ed Pokryfky. Kurth played a great game, making many critical saves during regulation to keep the Coasties in it and following that up with an excellent job in the shootout.
