Out Of The Trenches

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots couldn't have been more fun. The Dogs came out with a full roster and they came to play, in spite of the fact that the schedule screens went down at the arena and we ended up on Pad 4 the mirror image of our regular Pad 2. Guys were heading to the wrong dressing room and the wrong bench and even towards the Zamboni room when they left after the game.

End to end action was the name of this game! With a healthy scratch, Chris S, an equipment failure, Rich L. and two no shows, Mark M & Peter P. the bench was the deepest that this reporter has seen in some time.

The depth showed. The guys were as fresh at the end of the festivities as they were at the beginning. This ended up being in the Dogs favour as the Haqnds handed in one of their strongest performances in some time.

A little "How's Your Mother" in the corners by both teams kept Mike on his toes the whole game.

It was good to see Jeff D. back in full swing and also a nod to Mike C. and Chris H. It is sometimes difficult with work and family and such to squeeze in hockey as well. Glad to see you guys!

The score was 3-2 and the Dogs lost, but it could have been much worse had it not been for the play of George between the pipes. Good job!

Nobody expected it. Everyone thought, "It's just another pick-up game". That sentiment couldn't have been any further from the truth. What started as a scramble around lunch time yesterday turned out to be one of the Best Games this reporter has had the privilege to witness in some time.

Before we get started though, just a quick note. Jeff D. donned the armour for the first time since his unfortunate accident last year. Glad to see you back Jeff.

Both teams, the Dogs and the Ad-Hocs! were able to scrape together 2 lines and 3 defence. The advantage at the outset seemed to be in the Ad-Hocs favour. Youth and Speed looked like it would win the day.

Surprisingly though, the Dogs came out on top. Not without a fight. In fact there was no scoring until 23:05 of the frame when Cory H. came in to provide a virtuoso performance for the crowd. Goals by #19 Kyle Griffin, #8 Chris S. and #15 Nate Sabyan rounded out the scoring for the Dogs.

Hats off to #25 Mike Rogoski, #19 Kyle Griffith, and #15 Nate Rouse for helping out at short notice.

And thanks also to the Ad-Hocs for getting together and coming out and giving a great performance!

Those many fans might have also noticed the clock working last night. Thanks to Maggie Sabyan for her technical prowess.

Next week It's Hands In Motion. Always a good match up.

See you at the rink!

Sunderland All "Tied" Up

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls and Hockey Fans of all Ages. You missed a great game last night. Sunderland in town and ready to play their no holds barred style of hockey didn't count on the Dogs to put up much of a fight. They were proven wrong.

They might not be the biggest kids on the block, but you know what, sometimes they surprise you. The Harvesters clearly have 10+pounds on the biggest of our guys, but don't tell them.

In a scene somewhat reminiscent of a David vs. Goliath match, no one told the Oshawa that they were the "Under" Dogs!

Brad Laundry put the Dogs on the board at m6 for the first score of the evening. 1 minute later Sunderland scored to even things up and it was like that all evening long.

As the saying goes it was "Old Time Hockey". Lots of board work, lots of "Stick" work and a lot of enthusiasm made for a great game.

George looked good in net, stopping a clear goal at m12 with a deft glove save. Kevin K worked the "D" all evening and put in a good show.

Brad scored again at m20. Kevin Adams at m27 and Chris Hawkins rounded out the scoring with a Solo effort at m34.

Rich Lafoy contributed two assists and Mike and Tyler rounded out the assists.

All in all it was a most satisfying game and one of the best the Dogs have played this year.

Next week is the last kick at the cat for the year! Come out and surprise your Dogs with a little support for their last game of the season.

See ya round the rink.
