RECAP: 2015-16 Team America - "Emerging Contenders"

Posted by: Ryan Evans on Mon Apr 11th 2016 8:00am

After a winless inaugural season, Team America turned the ship around in 2015-16, thanks in large part to a number of new additions. The World Police's roster featured nine new players, all of which made significant contributions. Team America went 14-4-2-0 and was in first place from day one until the last day of the season, when the Miners nipped them by one point for the regular season title.

During the regular season, the World Police boasted the league's most prolific offense, scoring 121 goals (6.05 per game). An impressive seven players averaged a point per game or better on the season.

Team America made the first postseason appearance in team history as the No. 2 seed. The World Police went 0-2-1-0 in the playoffs, finishing in fourth place.

RECAP: Game 20 vs. Chiefs (March 22, 2016)

After two straight losses, Team America (14-4-2-0, 30 points) got its offensive mojo back Tuesday night and closed out the regular season with a 9-6 win over the Chiefs.

After falling behind, 3-1, early, the World Police's special teams took the game over. Team America rattled off three unanswered goals, including two shorthanded, to take a 4-3 lead. They never trailed after that point, scoring five of the next eight goals--three on the power play and another shorthanded.

Defenseman Zach Wilkinson led the way for Team America with four goals and six points on the night. Forward Matt Fairbanks notched a brace and four points as well in the winning effort.

RECAP: Game 19 vs. Miners (March 20, 2016)

Posted by: Ryan Evans on Mon Mar 21st 2016 8:59am

Team America's (13-4-2-0, 28 points) normally potent offense was shut down by the league's best defense Sunday night, as the Miners throttled the World Police, 9-1, in Richfield.

The Miners dominated the game from start to finish, jumping out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looking back. Team America forward Tom Miskavige gave his team a glimmer of hope with a shorthanded tally to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second, but that's as close as the World Police got. The Miners rattled off six more unanswered goals to run away with the game as Team America couldn't muster anything against their league-best defense.

Team America has now lost two straight and three of its last five games and no longer controls the race for first place. To win the regular season, the World Police must win their last game of the season and hope the Miners lose at least one of their last two.

RECAP: Game 18 vs. Summit (March 16, 2016)

Posted by: Ryan Evans on Thu Mar 17th 2016 8:51am

After a couple of close calls earlier this season, Summit finally got the better of Team America (13-3-2-0, 28 points) Wednesday night in New Hope, beating the World Police 7-3.

The loss is Team America's second in its past four games and both of those have come against teams in the bottom half of the standings.

Team America opened the scoring, but things quickly unraveled after that as Summit rattled off five unanswered goals to build a 5-1 lead. A pair of goals midway through the second and early in the third pulled the deficit within two, 5-3, but that's as close as it would come. Summit tacked on a pair late in the third to seal the deal.

Forwards Matt Fairbanks (14) and Dane Espenson (4) and defenseman Eric Theis (4) notched the World Police's goals. Theis and Fairbanks led the way with two points a piece.
