RECAP: Game 8 vs. Spartans (Jan. 3, 2016)

Posted by: Ryan Evans on Mon Jan 04th 2016 9:17am

We never make it easy, do we? The "Cardiac Kids" were at it again Sunday night in Eden Prairie as Team America (7-1-0-0, 14 pts) pulled out another thrilling come-from-behind win, 10-9, against the Spartans (2-7-0-0, 4 pts) to remain in a tie for first place.

The World Police trailed by as many as three goals during the game, but they proved resilient once again. Trailing, 8-5, early in the third period, Team America stormed back and scored five of the next six goals -- including the game-winner from defenseman Zach Wilkinson with just 26 seconds left on the clock.

The final goal capped a four-goal night from Wilkinson, boosting his team-leading total to 10 on the season. Forwards Justin Schwechter (1+3) and RJ Kelly (2+2) had four-point nights as well to power the winning effort.

RECAP: Game 7 vs. Chiefs (Dec. 20, 2015)

Led by a hat trick from defenseman Joseph Blaney, Team America (6-1-0-0, 12 pts) got back on the winning track Sunday night, overcoming a pair of one-goal deficits to dispatch the Chiefs, 5-3.

Team America was slow out of the gate and trailed for most of the first two periods. The tide turned, though, late in the second and early in the third when the World Police notched two goals in 12 seconds to claim the lead, 3-2, they would not relinquish. They tacked on a couple more after that to ensure the win.

Defensemen ruled the night for Team America. Overall, four of their five goals came from the blue line - three from Blaney and one from Zach Wilkinson to push his totals to six goals and 14 points this season -- both team highs.

RECAP: Game 6 vs. Miners (Dec. 13, 2015)

The '72 Dolphins can rest easy as Team America (5-1-0-0-, 10 pts) suffered its first defeat of the season, 4-1, at the hands of the Miners (3-2-0-1, 7 pts) Sunday night in St. Paul.

The teams traded goals in the first period, but a game misconduct penalty on the World Police, and the ensuing five minute power play for the Miners, swung the momentum. The Miners scored once on that man advantage and never looked back, tacking on two more in the second period to seal Team America's fate.

The Miners shut down Team America's usually potent offense, holding it to a season low one goal. It was the first time the World Police were held under two goals in 12 games. Defenseman Alex Hardyman tallied the only goal on the night for Team America.

RECAP: Game 5 vs. Summit (Dec. 6, 2015)

Posted by: Ryan Evans on Mon Dec 07th 2015 12:44pm

Team America mounted an epic third period comeback against Summit Sunday night in St. Paul and sealed its fifth-straight win with an OT victory, 7-6, to maintain its hold on first place.

Things didn't start well for the World Police (5-0-0-0, 8 pts.), who struggled through the first two periods and found themselves trailing, 5-2, to start the third. Overcoming deficits is nothing new for Team America this season, though, as they had to come back in each of their last three wins coming into last night. Armed with that resilient mindset, the World Police rattled off three straight goals to start the third period to tie the game at five.

The two teams traded a pair of goals from there to send the game to OT, where forward Dane Espenson capped a two-goal night with the game-winner just seconds into the extra period.

RECAP: Game 4 vs. Warriors (Nov. 28, 2015)

Team America (4-0-0-0) stayed undefeated, and claimed sole possession of first place, with a come-from-behind win, 8-7, against the previously unbeaten Warriors (3-1-0-0) Saturday night.

The showdown between the 'A' League's top two teams lived up to the hype. The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but Team America rallied and scored eight of the next 13 goals. The teams went back and forth all game before the World Police took their first lead, 7-6, late in the third period on a goal from forward Ryan Evans before adding another and withstanding a late Warriors charge for the win.

Evans (3+1) and forward Justin Schwechter (1+3) led the way for Team America with four points a piece. This season's varied scoring trend continued, with five different players combining for Team America's eight goals on the night.
